5 Quick Ways to Spruce Up Your Garden This Weekend

Garden maintenance

Your back garden is an extension of your home, so it makes sense that you should show it as much attention as you do your beloved house. But that’s sometimes difficult, especially if you don’t have the time or the money to undertake a large landscaping project.

The good news, though, is that there are a number of cost effective and quick ways to rejuvenate your garden this weekend.

Here are our top 5:

1. Add some colour

If your garden lacks colour, add a few colourful wooden planters – filled with beautiful flowers, of course. You can stand them on your patio or lawn to get an instant colour hit. Alternatively, recycle some old plant pots by painting them a funky new colour.

2. Fertilise your lawn

Most garden experts recommend that you fertilise your lawn a few times a year (one to four times). Fertiliser can make your grass look a lot healthier by helping to fill out bare patches, preventing weeds and making it more resilient to foot traffic.

3. Let there be light

Lighting can add extra character to your garden and totally change the overall mood in the evenings. From tea lights to lamps, the choices are immense. Solar-powered lights are a great, environmentally friendly option and they can often just be pushed into the ground, meaning you don’t need to be a DIY buff to utilise them.

4. Add a water feature

We’ve spoken before about the benefits of water features, but they don’t all have to be fancy. Even something as simple as a bird bath will both look great and attract wildlife into your garden. It’s a win-win as birds are great for dealing with your unwanted pests.

5. Give your fence a birthday

If your garden fence has seen better days, give it a birthday this weekend. Replace any broken sections with new wood and give the rest a sand down and a new coat of paint. You can completely change the look of your entire by simply rejuvenating your fence a little.
